FIRO Theory Applied
Develop self-awareness and bring depth to your work with Emotional Intelligence.
This course is for those who have qualified to use FIRO Element B and wish to experience the greater power of FIRO Theory developed by Will Schutz. Participants emerge with greater understanding, ideas, resources and confidence in how to apply FIRO theory and how to work with emotional intelligence.
FIRO Theory is a complete approach to understanding people, their motivations, their relationship needs and how this translates into positive and negative behaviours.
Will Schutz was working with the core of what is now called emotional intelligence back in the 1960s. From his work in the US Navy where he developed his initial theory and the first version of the questionnaire (known as FIRO-B
®), he extended this to describe how the Self Concept is the bottom line.
Schutz's 3-layered model explains how feelings are emotional reactions that arise when the Self Concept is nurtured or challenged and we develop behaviours designed to manage our feelings – but not always effectively. It brings much needed depth, as well as practical techniques for working with Emotional Intelligence.
This course is highly experiential and uses a wide range of methods and exercises that can be used with individuals and teams and introduces further questionnaires that help to make these intangible concepts more tangible. Most participants gain levels of self insight that help them in both their home life and their professional practice as facilitators and coaches.
