Our experience with running conventional Development Centres is that these often do not produce the performance gains anticipated – people still felt that they were being analysed and assessed. Our initial solution - replacing 'assessors' with 'coaches' - led to improvements, but we still found that the development message was not getting through. The solution we eventually adopted is called ‘Reality Coaching.’ This combines the best of coaching practice (helping coachees to discover for themselves) with the best objective assessment (based on our Individual Audit) in order to help chart the path between current reality and aspiration.
